Quilt Piecing Basics

In our Quilt Piecing Basics class, you will learn the basics of rotary cutting to achieve perfection in your cutting. Exact seam allowances, following a pattern, and pressing techniques are also covered.  All supplies are provided in this beginner class, because we want you to be sure you're going to love it before you go ahead and invest in a lot of supplies like other companies do. In this class we will make an Ohio Star quilt block. Students must already know how to sew on a sewing machine prior to taking this class.

One - 3 hour class             $35

Shadowplay

The 3-D illusion of this quilt happens when you choose three distinct values of color. It's not necessary to have three values of the same color; it's the value that does the work! It looks like a lot of pesky Y-seams, but there are none in this pattern! We will have kits available for purchase, as the real trick is in the fabric choices. Instructor: Sue Sandritter
One - 4.5 hour class            $50
Upcoming Class Dates:

After you have taken our class, you can rent time on the machine to quilt your own quilts.

Long-Arm Machine Rental

We have a brand new Handi-Quilter Amara machine. After you have taken our class to learn how to use the long-arm machine, you may rent time to quilt your own quilts.  It is so much faster and easier than quilting on a traditional sewing machine. We will have someone from our staff there to help you with loading your quilt, getting started, and helping you with any issues you may have. Once you've used our machine, you will be hooked!
Machine Rental is $22 per hour, which starts as soon as we start loading your quilt.

Paper Piecing

All quilters should know how to do Paper Piecing.  It's a technique that allows you to make perfect points, and guarantees that every block is exactly the same size. Each month is a different block that teaches you the technique without consuming a lot of time. At the end of 12 months, you will have 12 blocks to either put together into a quilt top, or you can make separate mini wall-hangings and switch them out each month.

You MUST have previous quilting experience before taking this class.

Gemstone Quilt Block: Emerald

Create your own sparkling gem using the same techniques that artist and designer MJ Kinman has used to create her giant gem quilts for over 20 years. You’ve read about MJ’s gem quilts in Quilting Arts Magazine and McCall’s Quilting Magazine, and you may have even seen her on Quilting Arts TV and The Quilt Show.com with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims. Now MJ has created patterns that allow all of us to bring a little bling into our lives. Through her use of color and contrast, MJ has created patterns that will delight your senses and are a blast to put together even for the new quiltmaker.

This isn’t your typical foundation paper piecing. Freezer paper templates are ironed to the right side of your fabric and can be easily removed after piecing. And best of all, these patterns don’t require absolute precision, so you can relax and enjoy every aspect of making your gem.

Our instructor is Julie Manis, certified Gem Affiliate with MJ Kinman, and Textile Artist.  Julie has been teaching quilting and fabric art related classes for over 20 years  and is excited to share with you this great technique for creating your own gemstone quilts. Let’s get started with the Emerald block and add a little bling to your life.

One - 4 hour class
Cost: $50 class fee payable at time of registration,
plus ?? for the pattern, due to the instructor
at the beginning of class.
